Objective

Test whether context congruency helps perception primarily when sensory evidence is weak and offers less benefit—or reverses—when evidence is clear.

Design

Present expected and unexpected interface elements under low-contrast and high-contrast conditions. Cross context congruency, signal reliability, target location, and task.

Measures

• identification accuracy
• reaction time
• time to first fixation
• confidence and confidence calibration

Prediction

Congruency improves performance under weak evidence but provides less benefit or an unexpected-target advantage under clear evidence.

Falsification Condition

Context congruency produces the same benefit at every signal-reliability level.

Analysis Requirement

Separate perceptual sensitivity from decision criterion where possible; gaze, reaction time, and confidence alone cannot establish a changed perceptual representation.
