  • Primary claims/evidence: A native element consistently cannot meet core product requirements, while a custom implementation demonstrates equivalent accessibility and lower total complexity across supported contexts.
  • Methodology: Custom elements do not inherently make an interface redesignable. A poorly modeled custom element can be more rigid than ordinary HTML. Redesignability comes from durable content models, presentation-neutral DOM order, parent-owned composition, contextual tokens, low-specificity CSS, and controlled escape hatches.
